The Sleep Medicine Board Review (SMBR) service was first offered in 2001. It was the first such service to be made available on the internet. SMBR was created in order to help individuals prepare for the Sleep Medicine Exam. A practice exam format was adopted for two reasons. First, preparing in this fashion allows the candidate to be exposed to both the information they'll need to know and the context under which they'll be expected to perform. Second, an exam format allows the user to determine what they know on a metric that is similar to the actual exam (total % correct).
In addition to our standard features (timed tests, exam scoring,
performance ranking, and a exam review utility) the current version
of SMBR has three new features:
1) a "by category" performance assessment
function (i.e., a report feature that depicts performance for each of the
subdisciplines of Sleep Medicine [e.g., Pulmonary Sleep Medicine,
Psychiatric Sleep Medicine, Behavioral Sleep Medicine, etc]);
2) the ability to create tests “by category” (e.g., create tests that
contain only questions for a given subdiscipline of Sleep Medicine),
and 3) a training mode feature where immediate feedback is given on
a question-by-question basis. We anticipate that these new features
will make the SMBR service an even more useful exam prep tool.
